We highly encourage parent involvement as a pod coach on the mat during practices. Especially for younger wrestlers, having a parent help walk them through the wrestling moves during practice is helpful. As a pod coach, you will help explain and demonstrate the skills and knowledge being taught by the staff coaches to a small group of wrestlers. This hands-on approach ensures each wrestler understands how to perform each move correctly.
Previous wrestling experience is not required, the coaching staff will give a demonstration of each move and instruct the pod coaches on the key components.
Pod coaches should arrive at practice early to receive direction from the coaching staff regarding the schedule for that practice.
As a pod coach we ask that you participate in the majority of the practices throughout the season. Without a consistent commitment from the pod coaches, it is difficult for our coaching staff to maintain an effective practice schedule.
You are not required to be a mat-side coach at any tournament events sanctioned by ERYW.
There may be times you are asked to pod coach a group that does not include your son or daughter.
As a pod coach you are an advocate of the ERYW program.
To ensure the safety of all wrestlers, all pod coaches are required to complete and pass a background check.
